Maxayn - Moan to the Music
This is some rare-ass funky shit, kids. Maxayn was a band led by Maxayn Lewis, who was the daughter of a gospel singer and was herself classically trained. She’s worked with Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson and Madonna. This was from the band’s second album, Mindful, which was released in 1973. The band broke up when her husband, keyboardist Andre Lewis, was recruited to fill George Duke’s seat in Frank Zappa’s band. After he left Zappa in 1976, they reformed and recorded three more albums as Mandre. Maxayn Lewis went on to work with the Gap band in the ’80s.
